Cited Roots

Family history you can check

Every person in your tree,
backed by a record.

Build your family tree here for free. When you want to go further back, we research one branch and add ancestors with the documents that prove them.

A free tree is yours to build by hand, private to your Google account. A paid investigation adds sourced ancestors to that same tree, each one linked to the record we found them in.

The approach

Follow the evidence.
Keep the story honest.

A familiar surname is a starting point. Connecting it to your family takes research.

We use research tools and AI assistance to find leads, then check the supporting records. A finding only ships if the document it cites says what we claim it says. A person reviews everything before delivery. If a connection is uncertain, we say so.

We can't promise a certain number of ancestors or generations. We can promise a clear account of what the records support and where the trail stops.

Made for you, made to keep

03

A report you can return to

A written account of the investigation, its open questions and suggested next steps. Export your tree as a GEDCOM file at any time.

A few things to know

Before we begin.

Have a different question?
[email protected]

Is the tree really free?

Yes. Sign in with Google and start adding people. There's no card, no trial and no limit on how many relatives you add. The tree is private to your account and you can export it as a GEDCOM file whenever you like.

How far back can you trace my family?

It depends on the records available for your family's places and dates. Some branches extend quickly; others reach a gap. We agree on a focused investigation, not a guaranteed number of generations.

What does the $149 cover?

One agreed family branch, research using accessible sources, the sourced people we can establish added to your tree, and a written report. It's a one-time introductory price. Paid record requests or a wider investigation aren't included and won't happen without your approval.

How long does an investigation take?

We give you a delivery estimate after reviewing your starting information and before you pay. The estimate and agreed scope stay on your private case page.

Do you use AI?

Yes. AI helps find leads and work through records. It doesn't make a family connection true. A finding only ships when the quoted record can be checked against the document itself, and we review everything before delivery.

Will my family tree be public?

No. Your tree requires your Google login. Your case page uses a private link, which you should keep to yourself. We don't publish your family history as a sample or put it in another client's tree.

What if the research doesn't find new ancestors?

The fee covers the agreed investigation. Your report explains what was searched, what could be established and where evidence was missing. We won't fill gaps with guesses. If we can't undertake the agreed work, we refund the payment.

Is this connected to Ancestry.com?

No. Cited Roots is an independent service by Crest Systems. You don't need an Ancestry.com subscription to build a tree or request an investigation. We don't ask for your account passwords.
