Your private family tree
Explore the relationships we can establish in your own interactive tree. Google login keeps access personal. It's the same tree you can build by hand.
Family history you can check
Build your family tree here for free. When you want to go further back, we research one branch and add ancestors with the documents that prove them.
A free tree is yours to build by hand, private to your Google account. A paid investigation adds sourced ancestors to that same tree, each one linked to the record we found them in.
Tell us what you know. We agree on the scope before anything is paid.
A census can place a family in one household. A marriage record can connect surnames. We compare records before adding a relationship.
Illustration only. Your family's information stays private. The approach
A familiar surname is a starting point. Connecting it to your family takes research.
We use research tools and AI assistance to find leads, then check the supporting records. A finding only ships if the document it cites says what we claim it says. A person reviews everything before delivery. If a connection is uncertain, we say so.
We can't promise a certain number of ancestors or generations. We can promise a clear account of what the records support and where the trail stops.
Made for you, made to keep
A useful family history connects people

Every ancestor we add cites the document we found them in, so you can see why a person or relationship belongs in your family's story.

From a question to a family history
You don't need to have it all figured out.
Share the person or branch you'd like to explore and a few names, places or approximate dates.
We review your starting information and set a clear scope and delivery estimate. Nothing is charged until you accept it.
Your private case page tracks progress. When the work is ready, open your tree and download the report.
Your starting point
A little information is enough to begin.
Yes. Sign in with Google and start adding people. There's no card, no trial and no limit on how many relatives you add. The tree is private to your account and you can export it as a GEDCOM file whenever you like.
It depends on the records available for your family's places and dates. Some branches extend quickly; others reach a gap. We agree on a focused investigation, not a guaranteed number of generations.
One agreed family branch, research using accessible sources, the sourced people we can establish added to your tree, and a written report. It's a one-time introductory price. Paid record requests or a wider investigation aren't included and won't happen without your approval.
We give you a delivery estimate after reviewing your starting information and before you pay. The estimate and agreed scope stay on your private case page.
Yes. AI helps find leads and work through records. It doesn't make a family connection true. A finding only ships when the quoted record can be checked against the document itself, and we review everything before delivery.
No. Your tree requires your Google login. Your case page uses a private link, which you should keep to yourself. We don't publish your family history as a sample or put it in another client's tree.
The fee covers the agreed investigation. Your report explains what was searched, what could be established and where evidence was missing. We won't fill gaps with guesses. If we can't undertake the agreed work, we refund the payment.
No. Cited Roots is an independent service by Crest Systems. You don't need an Ancestry.com subscription to build a tree or request an investigation. We don't ask for your account passwords.
